By Delegate Jeff Waldstreicher (D-18).

Last week, the District 18 Democratic Team—Senator Rich Madaleno and Delegates Al Carr, Ana Sol Gutierrez, and I — held a town hall meeting in Silver Spring. These forums are a wonderful way for us to keep in touch with the constituents we are privileged to serve.

The number of questions asked about specific topics provides us with a window into the concerns of residents. With the national conversation dominated by healthcare and the economy, you may be surprised at the topics that were the focus of the forum. Here they are, ranked by number of questions:

1. Traffic: intersection improvement, pedestrian safety, street lighting, and texting-while-driving
2. Taxes: alcohol, gasoline, and telecommunications
3. Education: teacher pensions, college affordability, and school construction
4. Environment: Bay cleanup, nuclear energy

Thanks to the District 18 Caucus (too many folks to mention here) for organizing the event, which attracted well over 100 participants. If your civic association or community organization would like the D18 team to speak at your meeting, we are always happy to do so.

Editor’s disclosure: Adam Pagnucco did not write this guest blog, but MPW readers should know that he is the Treasurer of the District 18 Democratic Team.
