District 39 Senator Nancy King and Delegates Charles Barkley and Kirill Reznik will be kicking off their election campaign this Sunday at a restaurant in Gaithersburg. Conspicuously absent from the guest list is fellow District 39 Delegate Saqib Ali.
We received the following kickoff notice from the District 39 team:
Dear District 39 Residents,
Sorry for the short notice, but please plan to attend the kickoff for Team 39 and a legislative wrap-up from the 2010 session at the Flaming Pit, Sunday 4/25 from 3 to 5. Since we weren’t able to have our District 39 Night in Annapolis this year, this event will replace that! A buffet will be provided along with a cash bar. Please come out and support our team as we gear up for the 2010 election season! RSVP to Nancy King, [contact info]. Senator Nancy King, Delegate Charles Barkley and Delegate Kirill Reznik.
We asked Ali about his non-attendance and he sent us the following quote:
I have told Senator King and the other State Legislators from Legislative District 39 that regardless what (if any) position I run for, I unfortunately cannot support Senator King because of her right-leaning positions on numerous important issues. Although I have great personal respect for her and know that she is a good person, philosophically and politically we come from very different places.
Ali elaborated at great length about King’s positions on this blog last summer.
We find the restaurant choice for the District 39 event to be darkly appropriate. Because if Saqib Ali does indeed take on Nancy King for Senate, the entire district is likely to be a Flaming Pit.
