Roger, a life-long Democrat has an uncanny ability to forge common ground with his colleagues and community. For example, Roger promised to revise the rules relating to infill development (new homes in older neighborhoods.) To achieve this aim Roger formed a task force that included citizen activists, builders and a realtor. Based on the consensus of the task force Roger drafted a proposal that sailed through the Council, 8 to 1. In addition, there is no Councilmember who is more committed to combating global warming than Roger. He unveiled a package of bills to do that and the bills passed the Council 9-0. More recently, Roger was successful in his effort to have the County assess a carbon tax to be paid by the county’s largest polluter. That measure passed the Council 8 to 1. Roger is a leader who honors his word. He has a record of results.
Interestingly, at age 23, I have been a member of the Democratic Party longer than Roger’s opponent! I believe this creates a stark contrast for Democratic primary voters. On a personal note, I had the privilege of interning with Roger in the summers of 2007 and 2008 and in working with him I got to know him very well. He is a truly gifted legislator and one of the most decent individuals I have been privileged to know. Please join me in supporting Roger on September 14th!
