GOVERNOR O’MALLEY ENDORSES SENATOR NANCY KING
Annapolis, Maryland – Citing Senator Nancy King as a partner in his work to improve public safety, Governor Martin O’Malley today endorsed her campaign.
“Maryland’s violent crime rate is at its lowest level since 1975, and Nancy King is a partner in my administration’s work to protect children from violent predators,” said Governor O’Malley. “Nancy has a proven record of leading the fight to keep children safe from violence.”
During the 2010 session, Senator King co-sponsored Governor O’Malley’s initiatives to require lifetime supervision for the most violent sexual predators (SB 280) and to increase minimum prison sentences (SB 854). Senator King voted for measures to prohibit sexual predators from earning credit for good time served (HB 289 and HB 599) and to prohibit the pretrial release of a defendant who is a registered sex offender (HB 1046).
“Working with Governor O’Malley, we made measurable progress in the fight to protect children from violent predators,” said Senator King. “Maryland’s laws are stronger, and our communities are safer as a result.”
Senator King served District 39 in the House of Delegates from 2003 to 2007, when she was appointed to complete the unexpired term of Senator PJ Hogan. District 39 includes all or parts of the Montgomery County communities of Montgomery Village, Hadley Farms, Washington Grove, Flower Hill, Germantown, North Potomac, Darnestown, and Derwood.
