The Gazette announced today that it is combining its Silver Spring, Takoma Park, Wheaton and Burtonsville editions into one edition. They promise that each neighborhood will “get the same amount of local coverage as they have always had.” But that is hard to believe given the fact that each edition in the past has carried stories not seen in the other editions. Unless the paper actually increases in size to accommodate all the stories, this is a difficult promise to keep – and that, of course, would reduce any savings from the change.
Is this an isolated move or the beginning of more combinations across the county?
