FORMER COUNTY EXECUTIVE DUNCAN ENDORSES NANCY KING
Montgomery Village, Maryland – Citing Nancy King’s strong record of securing real results for Montgomery County, former County Executive Doug Duncan today endorsed her campaign.
“Nancy King works hard for her constituents and makes a difference for Montgomery County in the Maryland Senate. The residents of District 39 should send her back to continue working on their behalf,” said County Executive Duncan. “Nancy knows that our public schools are key to our quality of life and our economic competitiveness, and she has been an effective advocate for improving public education. She protected our school system from a $23.4 million cut and secured $100 million for local school construction projects this term.”
Since Nancy King was sworn into the House of Delegates in 2003, the state has doubled its funding commitment to Montgomery County’s public schools, which helped our state’s public schools become #1 in the nation for the past two years. This year, she protected our public schools by leading the fight to block a $23.4 million cut to our local school system. Over the past four years, she helped secure $100 million for school construction and renovation projects.
“We faced difficult decisions with the budget as a result of the national recession, but we protected the critical investment we make in our public schools,” said Senator King. “We fully funded our major public education formulas and invested in school construction, which will help Montgomery County’s students and teachers continue to make progress for years to come.”
Nancy King has been endorsed by state and local leaders, including Governor Martin O’Malley, Montgomery County Executive Isaiah Leggett, School Board President Patricia O’Neill, State’s Attorney John McCarthy and Sheriff Ray Kight. She has earned support from leading advocacy groups, including the Montgomery County Education Association, Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 35, International Association of Fire Fighters Local 1664, Maryland / DC AFL-CIO, NARAL Pro-Choice Maryland and Equality Maryland.
She serves District 39, which includes all or parts of the communities of Montgomery Village, Hadley Farms, Washington Grove, Flower Hill, Germantown, North Potomac, Darnestown, and Derwood.
