From August 2018 through December 2019, I was a columnist at Bethesda Beat. They had a great team back then, including but not limited to Dan Schere, Caitlynn Peetz, Lou Peck and the Beat’s former owner and publisher, Steve Hull. Recently, I posted a job solicitation in which Bethesda Beat was seeking a new managing editor. Well, they found one, and this guy seems like the coolest managing editor ever.

Meet Jeffrey Lyles. He has all the professional experience one would expect for his current position, including managing editor, reporter and writer for the Gazette and several other publications. But that’s not what makes him cool.
First of all, he is a film reviewer. Here he is wearing a Superman T-shirt and reviewing Thor Ragnarok along with other movies.
Want more? There is lots more. Lyles has a website jam-packed with podcasts, more movie reviews and action figure reviews. That’s right, action figures. Lyles loves them. He has a YouTube channel with more than 300 reviews of them.
Not enough? He loves comic books too and reviews them on his website. DC Comics, Marvel, Image, IDW… Lyles reads a lot. When does he have time to work? For all comic book fans, check out his custom riff on the Flash logo. Is there no end to the coolness?
If I were thirteen, I would think that Lyles is the coolest man ever. My kid is thirteen. Wait until I show him this guy!
I have not met Lyles yet (although I would like to!) but Lord Almighty, look at what he is about. Bethesda Beat is already a vital resource for all of us in the county, but if it starts to reflect the far-ranging interests of its new managing editor, it could be even better.
