This is the third in a series from cast vote data on the Montgomery County Democratic primary. Let’s look at voters for Hans Riemer, who finished third in the race for county executive. Riemer did not have any major endorsements and only won four precincts, but he ran best in Downtown Silver Spring and Takoma Park. That geography affects his correlations with other candidates.
The chart below shows how Riemer voters voted in the council at-large primary. Riemer voters supported the four winners, but they picked Will Jawando over Evan Glass by 72 votes and supported Tom Hucker for the fifth spot instead of Scott Goldberg. This is consistent with Riemer’s best performances coming in Downtown Silver Spring and Takoma Park.
There are two council districts where Riemer voters differed from total voters. The chart below shows Council District 3, where incumbent Sidney Katz won. Riemer voters were more likely to vote for Rob Wu than total voters, but they ultimately would have elected Katz.
The chart below shows Council District 5, an East County open seat won by Kristin Mink. Mink’s best area by far was in Four Corners, which is close to Riemer’s home base of Downtown Silver Spring. It’s not a surprise to see a correlation between the two and Mink even came close to winning a majority of Riemer voters.
