Denizens Brewing Company, one of the pioneers of craft brewing in Montgomery County, is closing its facility in Silver Spring. Before it opened, Denizens was able to obtain a change in state law exempting some craft breweries from being required to sell their beer through the county’s liquor monopoly. That opened the gates to a flood of new craft breweries in MoCo. While Denizens is leaving Silver Spring, it will continue to operate in Riverdale Park in Prince George’s County.
Following is the statement from Denizens co-founder Julie Verratti from a video she released on Twitter. DC Beer has more details.

Hey everybody, Julie Verratti here, one of the co-founders and owner operators of Denizens Brewing Company. And I wanted to pop on here and officially announce to everyone that October 22nd of 2023 is going to be our last day that our taproom in Silver Spring is going to be open. Our ten year lease has come to an end, and that’s the end of an era for us, an end of a chapter. It’s been an incredible ten years in Silver Spring and we’re so grateful for the community here.
We’re still making the same high quality beer, high quality service, high quality food that you can grab right here in Riverdale Park, Maryland. We opened this much larger production facility in 2019. And since then, we’ve really poured our heart and soul into this place. We’re continuing to make fresh local beer and creating a warm, welcoming neighborhood vibe that you’re used to in Silver Spring that we’re building upon right here in Riverdale, Park, Maryland. Cheers.
