In the next couple weeks, the county council will decide the fate of County Executive Marc Elrich’s property and income tax proposals, as well as his gigantic fee hike. The issue won’t go away after the council’s action, however. As President Donald Trump continues his campaign of annihilation against the federal government, both state and local budgets will suffer and the issue of taxes will be back on the table in Annapolis and Rockville. Throw in next year’s final recommended budget from Elrich, who sees taxes as the only answer to every problem, and it will remain the only “T” word that can compete for attention with Trump and tariffs.
