A fifth candidate has entered the 2026 county executive race following Celeste Aroha, and Council Members Evan Glass, Will Jawando and Andrew Friedson. He is businessman and Silver Spring resident Mithun Banerjee.
Banerjee opened a traditional campaign committee on 5/23/25 and terminated it on 6/9/25. He opened a public financing committee on 6/6/25 which is now active.
I asked Banerjee about his campaign and he sent me the statement below.

Mr. Mithun Banerjee & his Wife is having a Small Business in Montgomery County, Maryland. He is a Loving Father, Husband & Son. His Wife is an MBA. His Father is an Engineer & Mother is an MBA, M.A. in English & Diploma in Journalism.
In his Professional Career, Mr. Banerjee worked for companies like Microsoft, Honeywell, Oracle, T-Mobile, Arbitron, US Department of Veteran Affairs, and Iridium Communications….& Managed Multi-Million Dollar Project as Program/Project Manager. He received his Master Degree in Electrical Engineering in 2004 from Lamar University, Beaumont, Texas and Bachelor Degree in Electronics & Communication in 2001 from Bangalore University, India. He has 11 publications in IEEE International Conferences, Journals & other publications. He was a Review Panel Member of 1) National Science Foundation(NSF-2006), 2) Office of Naval Research(2009), 3) NASA(2010), 4) Department of Defense(DoD-2010) & 5) National Science Board(NSB-2011). Review Committee Member for “Design Convergence in SoC Design”, (VLSI Design 2003), “The Sixteenth International Conference on VLSI Design & The Second International Conference on Embedded Systems Design.
Mr. Banerjee is a Resident of Montgomery County from 2008 & tired of huge Property Tax Increases & he strongly believes, based on his Industry Experience of Managing Budgets of Multi-Million Dollar Projects as Program/Project Manager, he can do a Justice to Montgomery County’s Current Budget of around 7.2 Billion Dollars with a Fresh Perspective & with a Responsive Government. Once Elected as a County Executive, he will focus on Zero Tax Increase, Balanced Budget, State of the Art University in Montgomery County, address Housing Problem, Modernize Workforce & make County Small Business Friendly by advocating for Small Business.
