District 16 has three incumbent delegates who are all expected to run for their current seats next year: Marc Korman (who was first elected in 2014) and Sarah Wolek and Teresa Woorman (both of whom were appointed during this term).  Incumbents normally run as a team.  However, Korman and Senator Sara Love have chosen to run together without endorsing any other delegate candidates, at least for now.  In a politically attuned district like this one, that’s basically an invitation to challengers to run.  And given the deep bench of District 16, which includes Bethesda and parts of Chevy Chase and Potomac, there could be more than one.

The first challenger to step up is former Montgomery County Women’s Democratic Club President Tazeen Ahmad, who is the chief financial officer of a government relations firm in D.C.  Her press release, which contains some eye-opening endorsements, is reprinted below.

POTOMAC, MD – [June 16, 2025] Tazeen Ahmad, a respected community leader and longtime Montgomery County resident, announced her candidacy for the Maryland House of Delegates in District 16, today.

“For over four decades, Montgomery County has been my home. It is where I raised my family, built my career, and worked alongside neighbors to strengthen our community,” Ahmad said. “Now, the Trump Administration’s reckless federal policies threaten our economic stability, civil liberties, public education, access to healthcare, and environmental protections. If Maryland can no longer count on a stable federal government, we must build a strong, self-reliant state economy that supports Marylanders—no matter who is in the White House. That’s where I want to engage to actively protect our community and our democracy.”

Ahmad’s candidacy reflects her long-standing commitment to public service. In addition to more than 25 years of experience in business leadership, Ahmad’s candidacy reflects her long-standing commitment to public service. She brings a sustained record of community activism and practical expertise on the issues facing Marylanders. Throughout her career, Ahmad has championed efforts to address food insecurity, affordable housing, economic justice, environmental sustainability, and backed policy reforms impacting women and families. These efforts were amplified during her 2-year-term as President of Montgomery County Women’s Democratic Club (WDC), one of Maryland’s largest and most influential Democratic clubs, where she continued to lead initiatives to advance democracy by protecting voting rights, ensuring fair elections, and advocating for special elections to fill legislative vacancies, thus empowering voters to have a direct say in their representation. Under her leadership, WDC also advocated for a wide range of legislative priorities, including enshrining reproductive rights in the Maryland state constitution. Her experience and commitment to solving problems via broad coalitions, has helped turn community concerns into impactful programming, advocacy and action.

From cofounding a nonprofit, with her daughter Marium, to address hunger during the COVID 19 pandemic, to advocating for victims of crime and their families on the Victim Services Advisory Board, Ahmad has established herself as a steadfast advocate for supporting and empowering families. She currently serves on the Maryland Commission for Women, the Interfaith Works Board, a nonprofit which provides critical support to over 35,000 county residents, and the Western Montgomery County Citizens Advisory Board.

Ahmad’s leadership has earned the support of respected local leaders.

Former Montgomery County Executive Ike Leggett voiced his support saying, “Tazeen Ahmad is an experienced advocate at both the county and state levels and is deeply familiar with the policy landscape in Annapolis,” said Leggett. “She is highly respected, uniquely qualified, and ready to be an effective voice for District 16 in the Maryland General Assembly. I am delighted to support Tazeen Ahmad for Delegate.”

— Hon. Ike Leggett, former Montgomery County Executive

“District 16 has the opportunity to send an experienced, visionary leader – Tazeen Ahmad – to represent us in the House of Delegates in Annapolis. Tazeen understands what we’ll need to keep our community vibrant through the coming years. She will bring her vision, her leadership, and her experience to the table. I’m proud to support her candidacy for Delegate.”

— Wendy Frosh, District 16 resident and campaign chair

“As mayor, I’ve worked with many leaders, and I know the difference between talk and action. Tazeen Ahmad brings both the heart and the skill to make real progress for our communities. She understands the challenges facing our towns, whether it’s infrastructure, small business support, or public safety; and she listens. Tazeen will be a strong partner in Annapolis, and I’m proud to support her campaign for Delegate.”

— Hon. Jeffrey Slavin, Mayor of Somerset

“I am proud to endorse Tazeen Ahmad in her campaign for District 16 House of Delegates. When I look at a candidate, I am always interested in what a person has contributed to the community when no one was looking. And in this regard Tazeen has scored an A+. I know that she will bring the same energy and dedication as a member of the Maryland House of Delegates.”

— Jane Merkin, former senior advisor to former MD A.G. Brian Frosh
