Radio host and producer Steve Solomon has announced that he is running as a Democrat for council at-large.  With incumbents Evan Glass and Will Jawando running for executive, two of the four at-large seats are open at this writing.

Solomon has run for office before.  He finished 24th of 33 candidates in the 2018 council at-large Democratic primary, second to incumbent Shebra Evans in the District 4 2020 school board general election and 4th of 8 candidates in the Council District 6 2022 Democratic primary.  He is using public campaign financing for this cycle’s race.

Solomon’s announcement is reprinted below.

I’m Running for Montgomery County Council

Big news!

I’m proud to launch my campaign for Montgomery County Council – at large.

Why am I running?

Montgomery County is at a crossroads economically and socially.  The residents here need common sense leadership for the future.  I’ve lived here my whole life, and in the last several years I’ve gotten much more involved in civic, community, and political issues.  Now is the time to take the next step!

Join us and make a contribution to become a Founding Donor as one of the first 250 grassroots supporters to power our campaign!

Montgomery County can do better – whether it’s at economic development and bringing in more businesses, helping the small businesses that are already here, making things easier and better for our seniors, taking care of our renters and home owners, retaining our teachers and keeping Moco the #1 county for schools, protecting our thousands of federal workers, and much more.

How can you help?

There are many ways to help – knock doors, host a meet and great, put up a yard sign, call voters, or email friends and neighbors to spread the word.

But the easiest way to help is money!  I am participating in the public financing fund, meaning that every dollar donated to me is matched.  I can take donations from $5 – $500, and all donations from Montgomery County residents get matched 5x for $5-50 and 3x for $51-100, so a:

$5 donation becomes $30

$25 becomes $150

$50 becomes $300

$100 becomes $500

$250 becomes $750

$500 becomes $1000

But I only get matching funds, if I meet the minimum threshold of 250 donors and $20,000.  So if you were going to donate $200, please consider giving $100 and having a spouse/child/parent/etc.give $100.  That gets me two donors instead of one, and each 100 becomes $500 for a total of $1,000 (a single $200 donation becomes $700)

Where does your donation money go?

If there’s anything that I’ve learned in my previous campaigns, it’s that money is one of the most important things. I can’t self fund a campaign, so I need money to pay staff, buy campaign flyers and yard signs, and pay for ads. Also, money shows organizations that you’re a serious candidate, and they will endorse people that they believe can win.
