Delegate Gabe Acevero (D-39) has once again been sued by his landlord for not paying rent.  This is the fifth time Acevero has been sued for non-payment of rent in the last three years.

So far, Acevero has been sued for not paying rent in July and August, 2022; October and November, 2022; October and November, 2023; December 2023 and January 2024; and July 2025.  The landlord complaints, with Acevero’s address redacted, are printed below.

In a post on Acevero’s earlier lawsuits, I recounted his history of advocating and legislating on tenant issues.  He has also made news for getting into a fist fight with a former election opponent, which led to dueling peace orders.  And last year, when the state was raising taxes (and Acevero’s own Montgomery County paid nearly half the state income tax increase), Acevero took to the House floor to declare, “It is the most patriotic thing anyone can do is to pay your taxes.”

I asked Acevero to comment on his landlord-tenant litigation back in February 2024 and he did not respond.  It’s worth noting that Acevero co-sponsored and voted for a bill on eviction procedures that was passed into law earlier this year.  Should Acevero be legislating on evictions when he has been accused in court of not paying rent five times in three years?  And would a good cause eviction law, which has been proposed in Annapolis, protect a tenant like Acevero?
