I don’t post every endorsement, but this one is more important than most: former District 16 State Senator and Maryland Attorney General Brian Frosh has endorsed Debbie Spielberg for county council in District 1.  Frosh represented Bethesda – a big part of Spielberg’s district – for eight years in the House of Delegates and twenty years in the Maryland Senate before serving eight years as the state Attorney General.  He is still revered by many Bethesda Democrats and is a nice get for Spielberg.  Spielberg’s press release is reprinted below.

BRIAN FROSH, FORMER MARYLAND ATTORNEY GENERAL, ENDORSES DEBBIE SPIELBERG FOR MONTGOMERY COUNTY COUNCIL DISTRICT 1

Chevy Chase, MD – Brian Frosh, former Attorney General of Maryland, announced today his endorsement of Debbie Spielberg for County Council District 1.

“I am endorsing Debbie Spielberg with enthusiasm to be the next Montgomery Councilmember for District 1. Debbie understands local government and cares deeply about our communities. I have been impressed with her expertise on the multitude of issues that challenge us today: from affordable housing to transit to environmental stewardship and more,” Frosh said. “She listens and then applies a realistic, intelligent lens to solving problems and moving forward together. We need Debbie on the Council. She is an outstanding candidate, and I urge everyone to support her campaign and vote for her in the primary next June.”

“Attorney General Frosh had a remarkable career as an elected leader serving the public interest, and I’m immensely grateful for his support for my candidacy,” Debbie responded. “I’m proud that he believes I’m the best candidate to represent District 1 on the County Council.”

Frosh was the Maryland State Delegate for District 16 for two terms and then served five terms as a Maryland State Senator. From 2015 to 2023, he served as Attorney General of Maryland. Among his many accomplishments, Frosh helped fund the Capital Crescent Trail and multiple programs for children and domestic abuse victims in Montgomery County. He passed legislation to protect the environment and conserve energy use, and to protect consumer privacy,

As Attorney General, Frosh joined multiple lawsuits challenging actions of the first Trump Administration, including leading a coalition of 12 state attorneys general against the Administration’s plans to expand offshore gas and oil drilling. He challenged Trump policies on numerous fronts, including birthright citizenship, a citizenship question on the 2020 Census, compliance with the Emoluments Clause and to retain birth control and subsidies in Obamacare.

He also fought for economic justice and recovered hundreds of millions of dollars for Marylanders from predatory lenders, Wall Street banks, drug companies, for-profit colleges, tobacco companies and polluters. He shut down sham charities and obtained debt relief for thousands of Marylanders who had been subjected to deceptive practices.
