Governor Wes Moore and his Republican opponent, former Delegate Dan Cox, held their only debate of the cycle on Tuesday. Banner reporter Pamela Wood asked two of the most interesting questions of the event and the Banner posted video of the responses on Facebook.
First, Wood asks Moore whether he intends to serve a full second term. Here is the embedded video along with a transcript.

Wood: If you are reelected governor, do you commit to serving the full four-year term?
Moore: Being the governor of Maryland has been the honor of a lifetime, and I would not be running for reelection if I was not committed to the people of Maryland.
Wood: Governor Moore, yes or no to my question, do you commit to serving the full four-year term if you’re reelected?
Moore: I think I gave the answer. I’m committed to the people of Maryland, and that’s why I’m running for reelection.

Second, Wood asks Cox about his support for Donald Trump’s attempted insurrection on January 6, 2021. Here is the embedded video along with a transcript.
Wood: We’ve spoken about President Trump this evening. In 2020, you worked with lawyers for Trump to try and overturn the election results. You advertised buses to Washington D.C. on January 6, 2021, and as violence unfolded at the U.S. Capitol that day, you posted on social media that then-Vice President Mike Pence was, quote, a traitor. Do you stand by those election denying actions and do you have any regrets about that?
Cox: Well absolutely. I mean, I regret tweeting. I mean, that was six years ago. Really, this is political TMZ in my view because the people of Maryland want to hear on this one debate. By the way, I’d love to have another debate. Morgan State. How about Coppin? I am proud of this country. I love it, and I’m here to focus on Maryland, not these political TMZ things. I mean, come on, let’s get some real questions.

Bravo to Pamela Wood and the Banner for asking both candidates tough questions and getting illuminating answers. You can watch the full debate here.
