Here is an interesting fact: with election season well underway and attracting attention from this site and others, it was the budget that accounted wholly or partly for most of last month’s top stories.

And what a budget it was.  One council member left for Hawaii for a week.  Another council member blasted “behind-closed-doors dealmaking.”  Four council members voted against a tax increase and then voted for it while one voted for it and later voted against it.  The end result: a large tax hike on most homeowners, a $293 million structural deficit and position eliminations at MCPS.

It was an awful spectacle to put before the voters at election time, and one wonders what impact it will have.  How do voters feel about the county now?  And how will that influence their choices in open seat races, especially for county executive?

We will find out soon enough!
