I don’t run many endorsements by elected officials of each other. Most are perfunctory and generic. But I’m making an exception for Senator Jeff Waldstreicher’s endorsement of Prince George’s County Executive Angela Alsobrooks for U.S. Senate because of its unusual level of detail. Also, it’s worth noting that Waldstreicher’s District 18 (where I live) will be a true battleground. Alsobrooks, Congressman David Trone and Council Member Will Jawando will all pick up votes here so any support can be helpful.
I’m an undecided voter in the Senate race so don’t expect any endorsements from me, but if there are others that compare to this one, I’ll consider posting them. Now to Senator Waldstreicher.

I’m writing you with a major announcement: I’m endorsing Angela Alsobrooks for United States Senate!
You know me–I always want to be detailed & transparent about my decisions. There are 4 important reasons I’m supporting this incredible candidate:
1) Angela Alsobrooks Shares Our Values
After the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, I’ve fought aggressively to protect the right to reproductive freedom across Maryland. Angela Alsobrooks is a pro-choice champion who has joined me in that fight. She will be an aggressive advocate for women’s rights in the Senate. I’ve also worked diligently to crack down on gun violence here in Maryland. Angela is a former prosecutor who will work hand-in-glove with the Biden Administration to pass universal background checks, ban weapons of war, and take on the NRA.
2) Angela Alsobrooks Lives Like Us
There aren’t enough Senators who live like, think like, and look like the constituents they represent. Angela Alsobrooks lives here, too. She’s raising a daughter here, and she’s taking care of her aging parents. Angela would be only the 4th African American woman to serve in the U.S. Senate. Angela was raised the same way I was raised, with her great-grandmother instilling in her “if you don’t like something, go farther and do better.” As I’ve seen up-close, Angela lives those values.
3) Angela Alsobrooks is Right on Foreign Policy
I get it: foreign policy isn’t top-of-mind for most voters. But in this dangerous world, getting it right is critical. Unlike the MAGA crowd, Angela fully supports our friends Ukraine in their fight against the autocratic Putin regime. And when Palestinian terrorists conducted an unprovoked attack on Israel this past weekend, Angela was among the first Maryland officials to condemn the attack and express her unequivocal support for the Jewish State. When the chips are down and the choices are difficult, Angela gets it right.
4) Angela Alsobrooks Supports Justice & Public Safety
Violent crime is at an all-time high. But when Angela was her county’s lead prosecutor, she reduced violent crime by an amazing 50%. She firmly believes that the first task of government is to keep families safe: in their homes, at school, at work, and at houses of worship. Angela doesn’t believe that safety and justice are opposites. That’s why Angela also supports second chances for non-violent offenders, fully funding re-entry programs, and rebuilding trust in law enforcement. In sum, Angela stands up for justice, safety, & equity.
