One of the biggest questions about newish MCPS Superintendent Thomas Taylor is when – or whether – he would replace MCPS’s top leadership team with his own people.  He has already selected his chief of staff, former council analyst and MCPS executive Essie McGuire, but more changes may be afoot.  Big changes.

Take a look at these screenshots from MCPS’s hiring site.  Yesterday, no fewer than eight senior positions, each with pay rates at $249,322, were advertised for hiring.  The positions are chief equity and development officer, chief student support officer, chief academic officer, chief operations officer, chief technology officer, general counsel, chief talent management officer and chief school leadership officer.  What’s interesting here is that at least some of these positions are currently occupied, such as chief academic officer and general counsel.  Other positions may have different titles and perhaps different portfolios.

Regardless of the particulars, and who stays as well as who goes, Taylor is moving to put his team together.  It’s a sign of change – and hopefully good change – at MCPS.
