The election forecasting site Five Thirty Eight estimated that District 6 Congressman David Trone had a 72% chance to win reelection against Delegate Neil Parrott. But as of just after midnight, Trone has not yet locked up this race.
The table below shows the vote distribution between Trone and Parrott by county at just after midnight. More votes remain to be counted – particularly in blue Montgomery County – but preliminary tallies show Parrott with a lead of more than 5,000 votes with 240 of 247 precincts counted unofficially.
That said, Trone has a major advantage in mail voting that has so far not fully shown up in the results. Only 13,181 mail votes have been counted as of this writing. But as of November 7, the state has received 43,056 mail votes from District 6 voters, of which 26,161 (61%) were cast by Democrats. The state sent out a total of 71,931 mail ballots – 43,080 to Democrats – meaning many more could come in. Trone could yet win.
These numbers will move in coming days, but as of this moment, here is where things stand.
