Former Student Board of Education Member Matt Post has announced that he is running for Delegate in District 14 following the retirement of Delegate Pamela Queen.  Post served on the school board during the 2017-18 school year and now works for the Maryland State Education Association.  Back in 2022, he applied for a legislative appointment to succeed departing Delegate Eric Luedtke but Bernice Mireku-North was appointed instead.

In my prior post on Queen’s retirement, I discussed the district’s history (including its wild 2010 elections) and mentioned that the three incumbents – Senator Craig Zucker and Delegates Anne Kaiser and Mireku-North – are running as a team.  That may mean that the incumbents are willing to let the best candidate claim the open seat.  As a fan of political competition, I love that!  We shall see how many folks get in this race.

Matt Post Launches Campaign for the Maryland House of Delegates District 14

Today, Matt Post, legal staffer for the Maryland State Education Association, former school board member, and gun safety activist, announced his candidacy to represent District 14 in the Maryland General Assembly.

Matt has called District 14 home his entire life. A graduate of District 14’s public schools and Yale Law, he’s never stopped fighting for this community: strengthening our schools on the Board of Education, making our community safer in the movement to end gun violence, and defending public education in the labor movement.

On the Montgomery County school board, Matt championed career pathways education, expanded mental health resources, secured hundreds of thousands in funding to support immigrant students, and led the charge to give students a day off for the Muslim holiday Eid al-Fitr for the first time ever.

After leading March For Our Lives’s 2018 new voter turnout program, Matt started its legal team, defending the constitutionality of hard-fought, common-sense gun safety measures all the way up to the Supreme Court.

In the labor movement, Matt fights for teachers, bus drivers, counselors, secretaries, and support professionals across Maryland, working to lift wages and ensure our schools have the resources they need to uplift every student.

In District 14, Matt has served on the board of the District 14 Democratic Club, the Burtonsville Day Planning Committee, and the Greater Olney Civic Association.

In celebration of his campaign launch, Matt Post released the following statement:

“We can’t wait to fight back against the Trump administration and build a progressive alternative here in Maryland. We need new leaders with new energy and new perspectives to take on the unprecedented crises facing our community.”

“Delegate Pam Queen has served our district with incredible distinction. I will strive every day to try and live up to her legacy as a smart, compassionate and fearless policymaker.”

“I’m running for Delegate to bring the voice and urgency of a new generation to Annapolis. I’m ready to work my tail off alongside our exceptional District 14 team to deliver for the people of our community. It won’t be easy to change things, but, together, we can get it done.”
