A few notes on these stories.

The inspector general’s characterization of MCPS as a “high risk operation” currently ranks sixth on this site for page views.  That tells you how much county residents care about schools!

The building permits issue turned into a major story and I summarized it last week.  I hope the county continues to make progress with the Census Bureau on fixing it.

Council Member Kristin Mink is golden for eyeballs.  If I were to write a story titled “Mink Plants Flowers,” I guarantee that hundreds of people would read it in the first 15 minutes after it goes up.  Whether they like her or don’t like her, folks do want to know what she’s up to.  And the county’s Muslim community is still raising issues with her.

The big story this month is going to be the county council’s consideration of rent control.  Regardless of whether they favor it or oppose it, all sides agree that it’s a huge issue and will represent a generational shift for the rental housing market.  The votes that these council members will cast on rent control, and its amendments, may go down as the most important votes they ever cast.  Will they get it right?  That awaits the judgment of future voters as history is about to be made.

And we will be watching!
