Council Member Will Jawando has left Maryland’s U.S. Senate race but he has not left federal politics.  On Friday night, he announced in a blast email that he is launching a new federal PAC.

The PAC is called Will of the People PAC.  Its statement of organization was filed with the U.S. Federal Election Commission on December 4.  Its treasurer is Chris Koob and its designated agent is Lauren Decot, both of whom are principals at compliance firm Mele, Brengarth & Associates in D.C.  The PAC has a contribution limit of $5,000, which is the current limit of standard PACs under federal law.  Its filing states, “This committee supports/opposes more than one Federal candidate, and is NOT a separate segregated fund or party committee. (i.e., nonconnected committee).”

Subject: Never stop moving forward

[Name], I want to share something new that grew out of our family’s Thanksgiving table conversations last month. Gathering to reflect and give thanks for the past year, a few core themes kept coming up.

First, despite my decision to step back from the U.S. Senate race, we are grateful God took us on this journey. The passionate neighbors we met across the state have kept us inspired, smiling, and determined when the world often seems so dark. We’re so thankful to have you as lifelong friends and partners in our progressive movement.

Second, we are worried about the future of our country, and our world. It’s times like this, talking frankly with each other, that we see the weight in our children’s eyes. As the kids led us in prayer for the families caught in war, the neighbors without homes this holiday, and the tables less full of food than ours, Michele and I were struck with emotion.

We have dedicated our lives to creating the world we want to see our children living in. I’ve served as a senior advisor to President Obama on education, started the largest workforce development program in county history, and passed historic rent stabilization and police reform on the Montgomery County Council. Michele has become an international leader in the fight for economic and social change since her time on Capitol Hill where she spearheaded bipartisan achievements from repealing Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell to securing over $4 billion for survivors suffering from the long-term health impacts of 9/11.

But there’s always more that can be done — that’s why I ran for the U.S. Senate, and why today we’re launching Will of the People PAC — our new project dedicated to electing a new generation of leaders who will reject the zero-sum politics of today and take real action to build an economy that works for all, protect our community from attacks on our fundamental rights, support our children’s education, and finally fix our broken healthcare system.

[Name], if you’re able to spare it, I’m asking you to be the first supporter of our new Will of the People PAC by chipping in $25 (or any amount) today. With a new election denier as House speaker and the 2024 elections less than a year away, it’s critical that we have a strong start and get these resources to candidates ASAP. I’m asking personally, [Name] — can you chip in today?

We’re putting together a list of bold, unifying leaders we want to direct resources toward and introduce you to soon, but we’re starting from scratch again, so any amount really helps!

Thank you for continuing to stand alongside me in this progressive movement, [Name].

With gratitude,

Will Jawando

Montgomery County Councilmember
