By Adam Pagnucco.

Earlier today, I printed a press release by District 16 Senator Sara Love and District 16 Delegate Marc Korman announcing that they are running as a team for reelection.  Left off their press release were the district’s other Delegates, Sarah Wolek and Teresa Woorman, who were appointed to office during this term.

An hour after I printed that press release, Delegate Woorman sent me the statement below.

We only get 90 days a year to legislate, and there will be plenty of time for politics after the session. My job is to serve the residents of District 16, listen to their concerns and make thoughtful decisions that will truly benefit our community—and that’s exactly what I’m doing.

Right now, we are in the middle of a budget crisis—one that was created before I took office. There are tough choices ahead, and I am committed to carefully considering the pros and cons of every solution that comes before us. At the same time, our federal government is unfairly and illegally attacking its own employees, and we should be focused on helping the federal workers and families in our community who are being affected. Maryland is home to thousands of dedicated public servants who deserve stability, and I take seriously the role our state can play in making things better for them.

I also am moving forward with legislation that directly impacts people’s lives. Last week, I presented my bill to ban discretionary clauses in insurance policies, taking on powerful insurance companies to ensure an even playing field for policyholders so that Marylanders aren’t unfairly denied the benefits for which they’ve paid.

I also led the fight for justice for the widow of a Key Bridge tragedy victim who died working on the bridge, ensuring that immigrant families who’ve lost their loved ones aren’t denied access to the support they deserve. The widow’s testimony brought one of the most conservative legislators in Annapolis to tears. No one in this situation should face additional barriers just because of their immigration status, and I’m working to fix that.

This week, I’m continuing my work with my bill at the request of a District 16 resident that would allow electronic monitoring in medical care facilities under certain circumstances. Families should have the right to make sure their loved ones are receiving proper care, and this bill is about transparency and accountability.

I’m also leading a bill hearing to establish the Youth Sports Safety Advisory Commission, which will study and recommend ways to keep young athletes safe. Our kids should be able to play the sports they love without unnecessary risks, and I want to ensure that safety is always a top priority.

I read all the emails sent to my office, so please don’t hesitate to reach out at Teresa.Woorman@house.state.md.us.

Regardless of endorsements or who runs with whom, I plan to earn the votes of District 16 residents through my work on their behalf. The election will come later—but for now, my focus is exactly where it should be: doing the job I was chosen to do, delivering real results and standing up for the people I serve.
