Back on May 14, I broke the news that the Affordable Maryland PAC, a Super PAC financed by real estate entities, had assembled $1.2 million to oppose Council Member Will Jawando’s candidacy in the county executive race. The next day, I revealed the Super PAC’s anti-Jawando TV ad, which had an initial buy of $231,950. Since that time, the Super PAC has reported an additional $55,000 in contributions and has now launched a website attacking Jawando.

The home page of the Vote No on Jawando website.
With more than $1.3 million on hand, this Super PAC has more money to spend against Jawando than Jawando’s own campaign has raised. That’s real firepower in a hotly contested executive election.
The Affordable Maryland PAC’s press release appears below followed by a series of screenshots from its website.

Last week, Will Jawando’s campaign responded to our ad (“One Job”) about his disastrous record on affordability, taxes, and education, not by taking on our arguments or the points we made in the ad head-on, but by criticizing our supporters and the members of our coalition.
Nobody has disputed that while Jawando chaired the Council committee, graduation rates fell, a sexual misconduct case was mishandled for months, and procurement contracts were bungled. This week he’s holding a press conference to object to an ad that points these things out. In criticizing our ad, his supporters say he has “shown up” and “does what’s right for schools” but don’t address any of the claims in the ad – because everything we said in the ad is true.
Whether it comes to growing the county’s economy, addressing the cost of living, and the outcomes we’re seeing for the children in MCPS, Will Jawando has taken us backward, not forward. We don’t expect anyone to take our word for it. We are big believers in letting the facts speak for themselves and providing voters the information they need to make the best decision on who should run Montgomery County for the next four years.
Today, we are excited to announce the launch of VoteNoOnJawando.com, an informational tool for voters who want to know more than what a 30-second advertisement can tell them about Will Jawando’s record. Voters deserve to know more about where he has stood on the most important issues facing the County today. Montgomery County, it’s okay to vote no on Jawando.
